An end mill is a type of milling cutter, a cutting tool used in industrial milling applications
such as profile milling, tracer milling, face milling, and plunging.
End mill have the following types: Ball end mill, corner chamfer end mill, corner radius end mills, corner rounding end mills, square end mills, tapered end mills.
Cutting speed is determined by the materials of the work piece. Feed speed was determined by the materials of the work piece and the diameters of the end mills. Here below is a picture about the milling speeds and feed rates.
When the priority is the end mill’s life, we can reduce the cutting speed considerably. When the blade stay in the flute in a large quantity, we can increase the cutting speed considerably.
End mills have two kinds of milling types
The first type is climb milling. End mill’s direction of rotation is same as the milling feed direction.
The second type is inverse milling. End mill’s direction of rotation opposite to the milling feed direction. Before the milling, end mills should slip on the work piece for a section, so that to make the cutting thickness zero, when finished the milling, the cutting thickness would approach the maximum.
When axial lead is coincide or approach to the work piece’s edge, the situation would be very dangerous. Operators should do some related equipment maintenance work.
1,Check the tool’s power and stiffness to ensure the diameters of the end mill is applicative..
2, The tools on the principal axis should be as shorter as possible.
3, Using the suitable end mills with correct tooth distance to reduce the shake between tooth and work piece when cutting.
4, Ensuring the tooth feed quantity to get the correct milling effect under the condition of enough milling thickness.
5, Choosing the milling diameter that suitable for the work piece’s width.
6, Using the correct tool cutting adage angle.
7, Correct placement of the end mill
8, Cutting fluid is needed only when necessary.
9, Following the end mills’ maintenance principle, and monitor the attrition of the end mill.
